The Gospel

What does it mean to be 'lost' spiritually?

When I (Timothy) was a little boy, my mother took me shopping to a big box store (pre-Walmart). It had a toy section...and I knew it! I was determined to escape to this forbidden paradise. While mom was talking to a friend, I entered mini-ninja mode and bolted. I played happily for a few minutes until an employee saw me and ASKED me if I was 'lost' and needed my Mommy. I burst into tears and cried, "Maaaaaaaaama!"

Spiritually, we have wandered from our Parent to play with toys. Those toys are described in a Bible verse, "For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world," (1 John 2:16). Humans are lost children playing with toys. We need to be reunited with our Father.

There is someone who can show us the way, his name is Jesus. Jesus described his work by saying that He came, "to seek and save the lost," (Luke 19:10). Our part is to admit that we've wandered away and gone after the toys of the world. We make the choice to believe in what Christ wants to do for us (reunite us to God). Jesus absorbed the punishment we deserve for running away from God (2 Corinthians 5:21). The Father stands ready to receive us in love, when we receive His Son by faith. "But as many as received Him (Jesus), to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name." John 1:12

Any words you use to pray and ask for this are sufficient, but here are some that I have found helpful. If you want, you can just make them your prayer.
"Jesus, I believe in you. I need you in my life. I've wandered away from God and you are the one who can bring me back. You took my place and paid the price for my sins on the cross. You proved you have the power to rescue me by your resurrection from the dead. Come into my life Jesus and live your grace, love, and truth through me. Thank you Jesus, for bringing me back to my Father, amen."

Can we pray for you in your new life with Christ?
